Iron Ore Mining

The group owns and operates iron ore mines in Barbil, Odisha through Narbheram Vishram- its flagship enterprise formed in 1953. Narbheram Vishram is one of the oldest mining business houses in the states of Odisha and Jharkhand and operates as one of the most lucrative business units of the group with a current iron ore mining capacity of 3.5 MTPA. The mine has a substantial resource base of superior quality iron ore with high Fe (iron) content and bulk density. The Fe(iron) content varies from 63 to 66 per cent, which makes it one of the best quality materials available in the country. The potential of the proven deposit, as well as the quality and quantity of reserves are good enough to sustain the mining operations for more than next two decades at the current operating capacity. The main products are:

High grade calibrated iron ore lump

(Input for manufacturing steel through the DRI/BF process)

High/medium grade iron ore fines

(Input for sinters and pellets)

The enterprise is one of the most advanced mining business units in the country as the mining operations are fully mechanized, adopting state-of-the-art technology and equipment for crushing and screening facilities. It is complemented by an equally efficient and modern logistic and infrastructure set up having its own fleet of vehicles and a private railway siding.

Flexibility in operations enables the mining division to maximize the utilization of resources as well as cater to the needs of diverse customers. Control over logistic infrastructure is the key to long-term growth in the mining business and to strengthen this aspect, the firm has invested in the development of private railway sidings (one nearing completion and another under construction).

The firm is ISO 9001:2008 as well as ISO 14001:2004 accredited and lays strong emphasis on the enhancement of safety, health and environment protection.
