COAL ASSET IN SOUTH AFRICA

Atha Africa Ventures is responsible for all Group investments in South Africa and SADC Region. It has acquired a greenfield coal asset (“Yzermyn Project”) covering 8359 Hectares in Piet Retief in Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. The asset has resources of ~100 MT based on current drilling data with potential to go upto to ~205 MT which represents expected production of 2.26 MTPA of export quality product for 3-4 decades. Yzermyn aims to deliver quality grade coal targeted at catering to the exports markets while managing the production and logistic costs effectively. The Mine Plan is underway to plan an optimal ROM and product within general export specifications.

The Project is strategically located at a distance of 270 Kms from RBCT and Maputo port and is well connected to rail heads and port facilities. Several alternatives exist in terms of road and rail connectivity from the mine. Based on a detailed logistics study, the route shortlisted as preferred route includes transportation of coal from mine via road to Piet Retief siding for further transport via Transnet to the RBCT port. Currently, the Project is empanelled with Transnet Freight Rail and an MoU negotiated with Richards Bay Dry Bulk Terminal.

Atha Africa Ventures has a fully operational office in Sandton, Johannesburg with a dedicated team of highly qualified geologists & mining engineers are already in place. The Group’s presence in South Africa is growing with strategic interest in the minerals and power sector. Other focus areas would be to look at greenfield ventures and strategic investments in the Southern African continent for Iron Ore and Coal assets which can cater to the Asian market.
